Housing over 30 local artists and companies, boutiques and a hip pasta bar, Collingwood yards is the place to be.
The independent not-for-profit social enterprise aims to nurture emerging creative talent allowing them a space to flourish. Through allowing cheap and permanent rental spaces for independent artists, Collingwood Yards aims to create a thriving hub for small to medium sized art organisations.
The 6500-square-metre site was once a courthouse, council chambers, a design institute and the Collingwood Technical School. The last 5 years have been spent refurbishing the space which now consists of 3 main buildings and a leafy green central courtyard.
“Immediately upon going for a walk around the buildings, which were in a pretty bad state of disrepair, I saw the possibility and promise to create an extraordinary community of arts organisations and artists,” founding chair Daniel Besen tells Broadsheet.
In the future they hope to host art shows, gigs and events. Support local talent and go check out all that Collingwood Yards has to offer.
Collingwood Yards is located in Melbourne's inner north at 35 Johnson Street, Collingwood.
